More ways to communicate. More opportunities to connect
You want to know what your child is thinking, what they need, and what makes them laugh. When speech alone doesn’t give them a reliable way to share those things, it can feel frustrating for everyone.
At Speech Spot, we help children and families explore additional ways to communicate through Augmentative and Alternative Communication, or AAC.
What is AAC?
AAC includes tools and strategies that support or provide an alternative to spoken communication. Depending on your child’s needs, this could include gestures, signs, picture boards, communication books, or a tablet or device that speaks messages aloud.
Some children use AAC alongside speech. Others rely on it as their primary way to communicate. The goal is to help your child express themselves and participate in the moments that matter to them.
Finding a way forward, together
With so many communication options available, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming. You don’t need to choose a system on your own.
We work with your family to understand your child’s communication strengths, needs, and everyday routines. Together, we can explore options and build practical goals around meaningful communication, such as:
Asking for something they want or need.
Sharing an opinion or idea.
Asking questions and making comments.
Connecting with family, friends, and peers.
Taking part in play and daily activities.
Support also includes helping you feel more comfortable using communication tools with your child throughout the day.
Let’s Explore Your Child’s Options
Whether AAC is new to your family or your child already uses a communication system, we welcome your questions.
Start with a conversation about how your child communicates today and what you hope will become easier.
